Dr. Gerald Smith is a highly dedicated and experienced dentist committed to providing quality and personalized oral healthcare. With a comprehensive approach that spans from simple restorative work to complex cosmetic cases, Dr. Smith takes pride in establishing long-term relationships with his patients, getting to know them personally, and delivering exemplary oral health care that goes beyond the dental chair to improve overall well-being.


Education has been a cornerstone of Dr. Smith's professional journey. After earning his High School Diploma from Port Arthur Collegiate Institute (PACI), he pursued his undergraduate studies at Lakehead University before achieving his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from the prestigious University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry in 1987.

Recognizing the importance of lifelong learning in providing optimal patient care, Dr. Smith actively engages in continuous education, participating in various study clubs, CE courses in both Canada and the United States, and staying current with evolving dental practices.


A leader in organized dentistry, Dr. Smith has been actively involved with the Ontario Dental Association (ODA) for over two decades. In 2014-15, he served as the President and Chair of the Board, contributing significantly to the advancement of the dental profession. His ongoing commitment is reflected in his continued involvement in various ODA committees, highlighting his dedication to giving back to the dental community. Dr. Smith is also affiliated with the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, Thunder Bay Dental Association, American Dental Association, International College of Dentists, American College of Dentists, and the Pierre Fauchard Academy.

Outside the Office

Dr. Smith is a lifelong resident of Thunder Bay. He has been happily married to Jacqueline since 1996, and they share the joy of raising their daughter, Jessica, an aspiring Broadway star!

His diverse interests include golf, where he enjoys spending time on the greens, maintaining his wellness at the Confederation College Wellness Centre (a member for over 30 years), traveling, especially to South Florida, and volunteering with the Ontario Dental Association. Dr. Smith values quality time with his family and embodies a well-rounded approach to life, both personally and professionally.
